National Insurance Increase
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced this week that National Insurance is to raise by 1.25 percentage points from April 2022.
Class 1 National Insurance (NI) contributions
Class 1 National Insurance (NI) contributions for employees and Class 4 NI contributions for self employed people will be increased to help fund health and social care reforms. The changes will see contributions increased for both employers and employees.
From 2023 the health and social care element will be separated out and will be visible on pay slips. Unlike other NICs this will be paid by all working adults, including workers over the state pension age.
