HMRC updated guidance: NI, PAYE and income tax

Last month HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) updated guidance on National Insurance (NI), Pay As You Earn (PAYE), and income tax. The updates aim to provide clarity and assistance to employers and employees in the UK.

The new guidance clarifies what employers and employees will need to pay in NI on any employee income over the weekly or monthly thresholds, regardless of the pay frequency.

The updated guidance also provides information on PAYE, income tax and tax codes from April 2023.

Key updates:

  • The guidance for employers on the Employment Allowance has been recently updated to  reflect the full employment allowance as of 6 April 2022 to £5,000. Read more 

  • ‘Class 1A National Insurance contributions on benefits in kind (CWG5)’ guidance has been updated for 2023/24. Read More 

  • ‘Apply for a certificate confirming an employee pays UK National Insurance when working abroad (CA3822)’ has been updated. A ‘Before you start’ section has been added including a link to form CA3821. The ‘What you’ll need’ section has been updated. Read more
